Research at UMD using the HPC cluster

The UMD HPC cluster is a tool available to all researchers across many disciplines at the university. Purchasing and maintaining HPC clusters for the UMD community represents a considerable financial investment. Hence, to ensure continued funding support, it is important for the cluster users to showcase their research and breakthroughs that resulted from the large investments made to bring you this tool.

We hope to create and populate a collection of research profiles in the near future.

Following are some of the research projects done using the UMD HPC resources. If you wish to highlight your research on this web site, please contact HPC staff.

Publications

The University HPC clusters are a major research tool and as such have contributed to many peer reviewed papers and publications, as shown in the following lists:

We are currently in the process of updating our database of publications, so the information in this page is incomplete and/or out of date.

If you do not see your publications in this list, please make sure that you (or the PI or one of the managers of the project) have updated the publication list for that project in the ColdFront allocation management portal. Similarly, you can use the ColdFront portal to set the title for your research group. Note that it can take several days before changes or additions are manifested in the web site.

Classes

As education is a major focus at the University of Maryland (UMD), High Performance Computing (HPC) resources are frequently used for instructional purposes. This includes use by courses which are part of the official university curricula, use by faculty sponsored extra-curricular student organizations, or use in various workshops and/or conferences.

If you are an instructor or faculty advisor for such a course and wish to request the use of HPC resources for this, please contact HPC staff to make a formal request, including the [required information]( (/kb/allocations.md#alloc_class). Although we will try to honor all requests, for best results we request that you make such requests at least a month before the start of the semester if possible.

Various newspapers and other media on occasion have articles referring to the University of Maryland's HPC resources and the research performed on them. We provide a list of such references.

If your resesarch was highlighted in a news article or in the popular media and you would like it added to the above list, please contact HPC staff with the URL and other appropriate information and we will consider adding it to the list.
