Introduction to HPC Workshop

This workshop is intended to introduce new users of the various High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters at the University of Maryland to High Performance Computing (HPC). Long overdue, we finally are offering it in the summer of 2020, and plan to offer it a number of times throughout the year in the future.

This workshop is especially aimed at new users of the University's High Performance Computing clusters (Deepthought2 and Juggernaut clusters), especially those with no or limited HPC experience. This course will introduce participants to the basics of high-performance computing (HPC), and will briefly cover:

  • general HPC concepts, terminology, etc.
  • accessing the cluster
  • accessing software installed on the cluster
  • transferring files
  • submitting jobs on the cluster

Much of the above tasks will be discussed in terms of the recently added OnDemand web portal for the cluster.

There are no prerequisites for this workshop. This is an introductory workshop and is targeted at new users of our clusters, so no previous knowledge of high performance computing is assumed.

More details (and a link to the registration form) can be found on the page for specific offerings of this workshop. The next scheduled workshops are (or last offered workshop if no workshops are currently scheduled):
