General Usage
Mathematica is a computational software program used in many scientific, engineering, mathematical and computing fields, based on symbolic
This module will add the commands math and mathematica to your PATH. Run math for the command line interface, and run mathematica for the GUI interface.
Mathematica is proprietarily licensed software. It is made available to UMD users through a campus license paid for with funding from various colleges.
Available versions by cluster
This section lists the available versions of the package Mathematicaon the UMD HPC clusters.

Running Mathematica with the GUI on UMd HPC systems
The recommended way to run Mathematica with the GUI is to use the OnDemand portal. From within the OnDemand portal, launch an interactive desktop. When that job starts up, you will be presented with an interactive desktop session in your web browser, Open a terminal/command line window, and issue the commands
module load mathematica
mathematica
The mathematica GUI should open shortly. As this interactive desktop session is running on a compute node, you are permitted to start computationally intensive calculations in this desktop.
Running Mathematica from the Command line (non-interactively)
There are times when you will wish to run a Mathematica non-interactively, e.g. when submitting batch jobs to an HPC cluster.
In this case, you should place your Mathematica commands into a file
using the text editor of your choice. For this example, we will assume
the commands are in a file my-math-script.m. You should then run
the script with the command
math -noprompt -script my-math-script.m
The math command runs the command-line version of
Mathematica (as opposed to the mathematica command which launches the
full GUI version), the -noprompt flag suppresses
the display of the command prompt, and the -script arguments instructs
Mathematica to take its input from the filename following the argument.
